Lashaunda Spurgeon posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, leading Albertville’s varsity girls to a 44-31 triumph over Douglas Tuesday night at Albertville Coliseum.

Amber Barhorst scored 10 and Erin Sloan nine for the Lady Aggies, who led 10-5, 22-15 and 30-22 at the quarter breaks.

Chelsea Jenkins contributed seven points and seven rebounds, McKenzie Peet three points and three assists and Lauren Sprouse two points.

Jacey Scott, of Douglas, netted a game-best 15 points.

Amanda Nixon tossed in six, Ashley Presley three, both Lacey Gardner and Julie Ross two and Katelyn Marshall and Latisha Thacker one each for the Eagles.

“I thought my kids played really well,” said AHS head coach Kortney Johnson.

“We have been working on slowing some things down — playing fast but in control. I felt like we have improved upon that.

“We have some other areas to keep working on, but I do think we looked good for this point of the season.

“The girls have some shots they should have finished, and free throws are always an area to work on.

“There in the second half, we gave up some offensive rebounds and got confused on transition defense at times, but we held on.

“Chelsea Jenkins played an exceptional game at both ends and for four quarters. On the guard end, Erin really played well against the high trap, and Amber Barhorst finished with some easy shots, putting her in double digits.

“All the girls played well together, and so we won together. That is great.”

Arab 46, Albertville 35: The Lady Aggies fell to their Marshall County rival in their season opener Nov. 6 at Albertville Coliseum.

Arab led 9-5, 25-15 and 37-23 at the rest stops.

Sloan paced Albertville with 13 points.

Spurgeon tossed in six, Peet five, Barhorst four, both Sprouse and Jenkins three and Tiffany Pams one.

Hayley Tidmore’s 13 points led Arab.

DAR 60, Douglas 33: The Eagles fell in their season opener Friday at Loyd Berry Gym.

Dannette Sims paced Douglas with 10 points.

Scott scored seven, both Marshall and Presley four, Gardner three, Nixon two and Thacker one.

Krista Pritchett did not play due to a sprained ankle.

Jessica Stevenson netted 13 and Autumn Largen 12 to lead DAR’s attack.
